Cathy Ball

Since qualifying, I have worked in the NHS, specialising in OT hand therapy for trauma and rheumatology hand surgery with plastic surgery and rheumatology teams before taking up a research position in 2007 in the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology at Imperial College London, and subsequently at the University of Oxford. I have examined patient reported outcome measures, physical measures and functional tests used to assess change in hand function in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome and Dupuytren's disease and their relevance for clinical use and in research.

Current research is focussed on selection of physical and patient reported outcome measures for patients with Dupuytren's disease. I am also studying hand function in a clinical trial of patients with rheumatoid arthritis before and after anti-TNF therapy.
