Tissue remodelling and repair
The overarching aim of the tissue biology theme is to understand how tissues respond to injury and how the inflammatory response it creates drives tissue remodelling and regeneration. We examine the molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive healthy tissue repair and explore how these become unbalanced in disease. A major component of this work takes place within the Versus Arthritis Centre for Osteoarthritis Pathogenesis and aims to understand the pathways that regulate cartilage wear and repair in joints. However, our research is also relevant for understanding many other processes, including fibrosis and fibrotic disorders, tumour growth and progression, wound and fracture repair and application of stem cell technologies.
