© Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2017. Many imaging modalities and techniques are helpful for the diagnosis and prognostication of disorders within the knee. Plain radiographs remain the first line of investigation, however, MRI now plays an increasing role for imaging the knee in the setting of joint-preservation strategies. Whilst the imaging findings for specific conditions are discussed in each chapter of this book, this chapter aims to give an overview of the imaging modalities available and to discuss in detail the use of imaging techniques for the visualisation and assessment of early osteoarthritis within the knee joint.
