We believe in involving the public and those with osteoarthritis in our work, and publicising the activities and discoveries of the Centre. We do this in a number of ways:

  • Clinical Trials at the Centre. We are actively recruiting to a number of clinical studies and trials at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, which will help us to understand more about osteoarthritis, or which test new treatments for the condition, both medical and surgical. For details of how to find out more about this trial and other trials, please see the section below, “Details of current trials”.

We work with other Versus Arthritis Centres of Excellence around the country. We participate in the Versus Arthritis Research Advisory Group on musculoskeletal disorders, and work closely with the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis also located in Oxford.

  • We aim to have members of the public on all Centre clinical trial steering committees, and our Centre Advisory Committee.  We work closely with the NOC Network, a patient support group for Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre patients. Follow us on Twitter, or on the NDORMS news pages. If you are a local patient and would be interested in getting involved, please contact oacentre@kennedy.ox.ac.uk
  • We were represented on the Early Osteoarthritis Priority Setting Partnership by the James Lind Alliance, which set priorities for new research areas in the condition.
  • We discuss our work via public talks, open days, lectures, school visits, and via our website and social media.
