Dr Fiona Watt and Professor Stephanie Dakin announced as Associate Professors

The Medical Sciences Division has conferred the title of Associate Professor to Dr Fiona Watt in recognition of her work in the field of osteoarthritis.

Fiona is a University Research Lecturer at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, and an honorary consultant rheumatologist at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. She was recently awarded a highly prestigious UKRI future leaders award to further her research into better treatments for people living with, or at risk of the commonest form of arthritis, osteoarthritis.

"I am thrilled and honoured to be conferred the title of Associate Professor. This underpins what we have achieved thus far in developing clinical translational studies in this important area. I hope this award will help me to achieve the impact we seek in osteoarthritis, working with our collaborators both locally and internationally."

Professor Stephanie Dakin has been appointed as Associate Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences starting on 1st March 2020. Stephanie's research focuses on identifying the mechanisms underpinning the development of chronic inflammatory fibrosis in soft tissue joint disease for which she has successfully secured consecutive research Fellowships funded by Versus Arthritis, most recently to investigate frozen shoulder. Stephanie is also the Chair of Directors for the Taught MSc in Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford.

"I am delighted to have been appointed Associate Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences. This provides a fantastic opportunity to conduct internationally recognised teaching and translational research in the Musculoskeletal Sciences. I very much look forward to working with colleagues and students in NDORMS and Green Templeton College in this role."

Head of Department Professor Andrew Carr said: "I offer my personal congratulations to Fiona and Steph who richly deserve these titles in recognition of their significant contribution to research and teaching at NDORMS."
