As a Laboratory and Facilities Assistant you will be responsible for helping the Health and Safety Officer monitor and maintain general health and safety within the laboratories.

We are seeking a Laboratory and Facilities Assistant to join the Facilities Team at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences.
 
In this role you will be responsible for helping the Health and Safety Officer monitor and maintain general health and safety within the laboratories and bring any problems to their attention. You will look after the upkeep and maintenance of common user areas within the laboratories to ensure compliance with GLP and contribute to general laboratory management (ordering and organisation of stocks) and shared laboratory facilities. You will be responsible for the organisation of the calibration and repair of pipettes: six monthly pipette clinics on site and/or post-away service. You will help to ensure day-to-day running of the laboratory, e.g. ensuring equipment functions, consumable stock ordering, cleaning of laboratory space. 
 
You must be educated to an to A level, with Chemistry or Biology as a subject or equivalent experience. You will be able to demonstrate manual dexterity and respect for precision equipment and have the ability to work as part of a team member and individually as needed. You must be of a responsible nature with a methodical and careful approach to work in the laboratory and possess strong oral and written communications skills, that can be tailored as appropriate. You must have the ability to appropriately use safety procedures and in the correct dedicated areas. Experience of R12 purchasing system and working in a Higher Education environment are desirable.
 
This role does not meet the criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa under the UK Visa & Immigration points-based system. We are therefore unable to offer sponsorship for this role.
 
Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:
•   A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check
•   University security screening (eg identity checks)
