Amit Halkhoree

DPhil student

I'm on the Interdisciplinary Biosciences BBSRC DTP, working alongside pRED at Roche as part of an iCASE project.

I am currently exploring the gut-liver-microbiome axis in healthy ageing, where I am using the expertise both at Oxford and Roche to unravel the microbial driven communication links between the liver and the small intestine. In particular, I'm interested in understanding which elements of microbial metabolism have a direct impact on host functionality. I'm passionate about seeing the microbiome being more effectively used in therapeutics development, as well as research translation in general

I am primarily a computational biologist and bioinformatician - though I have been known to occasionally frequent the wet lab for basic gnotobiotics and sample prep. My expertise lies in using multiomics, primarily in RNA-seq and metagenomics, as well as modelling.

Please do reach out if you're interested in my work, doing a DPhil at the Kennedy, translational science or anything else!
