Senior Gnotobiology Scientist
When not managing the lab my research focuses on how the intestinal immune system interacts with the bacteria residing within us, and how changes in the balance between this microbiome and the immune system can affect inflammatory disease. In my role as Senior Gnotobiology Scientist I also help to coordinate and run experiments for others interested in understanding the microbiome through the Oxford Centre for Microbiome Studies (OCMS).
I previously worked on a rare population of cells called innate lymphoid cells or ILCs, and how they contribute to intestinal inflammation, and before that my PhD was focused on mechanisms by which CD8+ T cells stay alive.
I also teach pathology and immunology aspects of the undergraduate medical course at Corpus Christi College and Oriel College.
