Membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MT1-MMP) is a Met-zincin, and it is a type-I transmembrane proteinase. Since its discovery in 1994, it has been one of the most studied MMPs. This chapter summarizes various aspects of MT1-MMP, including name and history, activity and specificity, structural chemistry, preparation, biological aspects, and membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase 1-selective biological inhibitors.
