Membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase 4 (MT4-MMP) is a Met-zincin. It is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored MMP. Unlike other MMP enzymes, MT4-MMP does not have strong proteolytic activity against extracellular matrix components, and its biological roles have not been clear until recently. In this chapter, various aspects of MT4-MMP so far reported, including Name and History, Activity and Specificity, Structural Chemistry, Preparation, Biological Aspects, are summarized.
