My research is focussed on understanding how signals from chemokine receptors, and G protein-coupled receptors more generally, integrate with signals from the TCR and coreceptors within the immunological synapse. Although previously considered purely chemotactic, recent evidence suggests chemokine receptors are strong contributors to the stability of the immunological synapse through an unknown manner. I am examining their spatiotemporal organisation relative to the known structures of the immunological synapse using a range of imaging approaches, and how this impacts their signalling through resonance energy transfer and biochemical assays. I am also conducting a screen of GPCR involvement in T cell activation using CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering technology.
I joined the Dustin group in April 2016 supported by a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowship. Prior to this, I worked as a post-doc in the group of Prof. Simon Davis at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford, where I examined Fc receptor triggering in mast cells through imaging and biochemical approaches, and also performed structural biology on the overall organisation of the TCR. My DPhil was also undertaken with Prof. Davis, using resonance energy transfer methods to investigate the stoichiometry and evolution of G protein-coupled receptors, which I began in 2009 following my Master’s in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, University of Oxford.
