Anjali Kusumbe is the head of the Tissue and Tumour Microenvironments Group at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford, UK. She moved to the Kennedy Institute and was awarded MRC Career Development Fellowship and ERC Starting Grant to start her research group after completing her postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, Germany on bone angiogenesis. She pursued her doctoral studies with a fellowship from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India and was awarded PhD in 2012. She has received multiple awards including the Werner-Risau Memorial Award for her work.
The goals of her research group are to dissect the organ-specific nature and functions of blood vessels and to elucidate the niche functions of blood vessels in normal tissues and vascular dysregulation occurring in ageing and tumour tissues.
We are very grateful to MRC, ERC, Leuka and KTRR for supporting our research.
