Bioinformatics
Analysis of metagenome-scale datasets requires both high-performance computing and expertise in data analysis and interpretation.
As part of the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, the OCMS has access to Kgen– a high-performance compute facility capable of storing and processing large datasets produced in microbiome studies. We have also developed a number of computational pipelines that enable efficient and reproducible analyses of high-through put microbiome datasets. Part of the OCMS provision is access to this hardware and software via a dedicated bioinformatician capable of deriving important insights from complex datasets.

The OCMS provides a bioinformatics service to those using the OCMS for sequencing or for those that have existing data. The Basic Analysis package involves the data processing/running of bioinformatics workflows. The Advanced package (beyond sample processing in the basic package) may include exploration of covariates and their associations with microbial profiles as well as case-control analyses of alpha diversity measures and specific ASVs/taxa. Further bioinformatic analysis and interpretation of results could be performed and agreed in a per-case basis.
