Scientific Director Oxford -ZEISS Centre of Excellence in Biomedical Imaging |
Associate Professor Marco Fritzsche is the Scientific Director of the Oxford-ZEISS Centre of Excellence (Oxford-ZCoE) in Biomedical Imaging and leads the Biophysical Immunology Laboratory (www.bpi-oxford.com) between the Rosalind Franklin Institute and the Kennedy Institute for Rheumatology at the University of Oxford, UK. The BPI Laboratory aims to unravel the impact of biophysics and mechanobiology on the human immune response in health and disease. For this mission, the BPI lab develop custom-built microscopy technology at the interface of biophysics and immunology. |
Advanced Microscopy Manager |
I am a Microscopy Facility Manager at the Oxford-ZCoE, KIR and IDRM facilities, providing user training, support and expert advice on fluorescent and super-resolution microscopy, as well as equipment day to day maintenance and quality control. Optical physicist by training, I have excellent knowledge of optics and extensive experience in the field of fluorescence and super-resolution microscopy. I have led several development projects, which resulted in fully functioning bespoke imaging systems: Large Field of View Light Sheet, TIRF-SIM and Near IR Label Free Transient Absorption microscopes. I enjoy working together with bio-medical researchers on exciting imaging projects, where my experience and expertise can contribute best. |
|
I share the management of the KIR and IDRM joint microscopy facilities and Oxford-ZEISS CoE with Kseniya. I am responsible for a mix of daily activities such as advising and training users, maintenance and troubleshooting of the equipment, and advanced method development. I also manage the administrative responsibilities associated with the facilities such as finances, business planning and communications. |
Dr. Jacky (Ka Long) Ko Advanced Image Analyst |
I am an expert in biomedical image processing with years of experience in developing and designing associate algorithms. In particular, I am responsible for deploying machine learning techniques in microscopic images and managing image analysis infrastructure at the Oxford-ZCoE. I also assist other team members to develop automated analytical pipelines for the interpretation of microscopy data, including feature detection, segmentation, and motion tracking. |
TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT
Postdoctoral Researcher, BPI lab |
I am an experimental physicist by training with a deep motivation in developing and exploring new advanced optical tools. Driven by the motivation to design and deliver advanced optical microscopy methods, I am currently building a lattice light sheet microscope coupled with structured illumination and adaptive optics in the Advanced Custom-Design Imaging Suite. |
DPhil. Student, BPI lab |
Currently, I am working on the development of a novel high-throughput fluorescence microscopy platform that can detect and track the ability of immune cells to kill pathogens within large cell ensembles at single-cell sensitivity. This technology has the potential to advance our understanding of the key mechanisms underlying the human immune response. |
