A priority in the OA Centre is to be able to validate basic scientific findings that have originated from laboratory studies. Routes to clinical translation include setting up cohorts of patients to follow their progression over time, performing Experimental Medicine studies, which enable us to test interventions in small numbers of patients, and early clinical proof of concept trials.

As part of these studies, participants may donate blood, urine, synovial fluid and cartilage samples which go back to the lab to be tested for possible markers of treatment success and/or predictors of disease progression.
