From the Laboratory to the Clinic is a translational research meeting, run annually since 1984 by an international organising committee led by the Directors of the Kennedy Institute, Marc Feldmann, Ravinder Maini and Fiona Powrie. The meeting brings together basic scientists, clinicians, and industry researchers to explore how the latest discoveries in immunology and molecular medicine can be applied to improve clinical medicine. In 2016, the meeting will broadly examine immune regulation and inflammation with an emphasis on the pathology of human disease. In particular, the meeting aims to capture current excitement surrounding use of immunotherapy to treat immune-mediated disease and cancer, and explore opportunities for diagnostics, genetics and epigenetics to contribute. Discussions will reveal gaps in knowledge and new opportunities. The meeting’s small size and intense format creates an environment that stimulates exchange of ideas, to facilitate new collaborations and scientific progress in the translational space; many of our current successes were catalysed at this conference.
